Simon Siggelsten, lecturer in building technology, lectures the course ‘Management of Real Estate Facilities Cont.’ at Malmö University for the students at the program ‘Real Estate Management’. They use BIM Energy in a course during term 5 where the students try different technical actions in two different buildings to see how the result changes and be able to draw conclusions to increase the understanding of the buildings.

The program ‘Real Estate Management’ is an interdisciplinary education where buildings are studied in economical, juridical and technical aspects. It takes a holistic approach about real estate and how a building works and how to organize and lead a business in the real estate industry.

Starting with the preselected typologies in BIM Energy they made changes so that one of the buildings had a construction similar to a building from the million program and the other one with more modern construction to be able to compare the effect of the actions.

For these two buildings they tried the different ventilation systems and air flows, installed heat pump and studied how the cooling need varied depending on the activity in the building.

The reaction from the students was that the application was easy to work with and that it was smooth working in BIM Energy.

Would you recommend other schools to use BIM Energy?

‘Absolutely, it worked very well to use BIM Energy in the course and the students worked very independently and motivated in the application’, says Simon.
